About us

Health is the ground everything else is built on.

Every ambition a person holds — the work, the family, the long projects meant to outlast a decade — rests quietly on a body capable of carrying it. Health is rarely the thing we are pursuing; it is the condition under which pursuit is possible at all. We notice it, as a rule, only in its absence.

And yet understanding one's own health has remained a curiously exclusive affair. It has meant specialists, appointments, and reports written in a vocabulary designed for other specialists — a body explained to its owner secondhand. The measurements themselves are no longer scarce; most of us generate more of them before breakfast than a laboratory could have gathered in a week. What remains scarce is interpretation.

Stoke was built to close that distance. Each morning it returns your own physiology to you in language you need no training to read: what yesterday cost, what today can reasonably ask, where the week is drifting. Not a verdict, and not a wall of charts — an account, legible and yours. We think that ought to be ordinary rather than privileged, and we are building accordingly.

Privacy is not a setting. It is the architecture.

A record of how you sleep, train, recover and decline is among the most intimate accounts a person can keep. We took the view early that such a record should never become someone else's asset — and that this conviction is worth very little unless it is built into the structure rather than promised in a policy.

So Stoke was designed the other way around. Your data is not sold, not brokered, not quietly repurposed as training material for someone else's product. What can stay on your device stays there. What must leave it, leaves encrypted, and only for as long as the work requires. We collect what the app genuinely needs to be useful to you, and nothing on the chance it might prove valuable to us later.

The test we hold ourselves to is simple: nothing in Stoke should depend on you being less careful with your own information than you would like to be.
